Maine State Parks
“Did you ever see a place that looks like it was built just to enjoy? Well, this whole state of Maine looks that way to me..” –Will Rogers
It’s to be expected that a place called Vacationland is worth exploring. And while there are wonders to be found all across the Pine Tree State, 34 specific areas have been set aside as Maine state parks to showcase the region.
That didn’t happen all at once – these parks were established over time, deliberate acts taken to highlight one area and then another. The result was a collection of natural gems, preserving aspects of the timeless beauty and wonder of Maine.
It is a worthy goal to try to visit all of Maine’s state parks, but you will have to cover quite a few miles to do it. These preserves range from Kittery in the south to Presque Isle in the north, and from Newry in the west to Lubec downeast. Each of them will show you a different aspect of Maine, and remind you of the way life should be.
