Bar Harbor disc golf
If you are a frisbee or golf fanatic, then chances are you’re well aware of what disc golf is all about. For those of you that are neither, let me enlighten you: It’s kind of a mashup of the two aforementioned sports.

Using plastic discs and raised baskets instead of clubs, golf balls, and holes, you follow a similar game structure and use the same terminology as traditional golf (par, fairways, greens, tees) to play the game.

Unfortunately, disc golf players are probably all too used to having to travel a fair distance from pretty much everywhere to find a good course, and the same holds true for the Bar Harbor area.

The majority of the spots on this list are an hour or more away from Bar Harbor’s northern border—but if you’re passionate about the game, then you probably won’t bat an eye about the commute.

Map of Bar Harbor Disc Golf Courses

Here is a map of all the disc golf courses in the Bar Harbor area.

Hapana Disc Golf

Built in 1992 and the closest disc golf course to Bar Harbor (6 minutes away), the 18-hole Hapana Disc Golf Course offers 55-par play along 4,065 feet of flat, mostly wooded fairways.

The baskets are Prodigy T2 and the tees are brick/paver/concrete. Hapana is open for play year-round—although the website disclaimer states that you can use the course at your own risk during the winter months.

This is a very affordable pay-to-play, honor box course, and all school-age children—including high schoolers—play for free. There is a pro shop on-site, as well as bathrooms and drinking water; dogs are not allowed.

DR Disc Golf

Just under an hour from Bar Harbor, DR Disc Golf offers players three Dave Enman-designed courses at their Orrington location, two of which are 18-hole—The Lynx and The Bobcat—as well as a 9-hole, beginner-friendly option.

Comparable amenity-wise to a regular golf course (full-service clubhouse, pro shop, lessons with an on-site touring pro, and disc rentals, as well as trash receptacles and picnic tables at every hole), DR is an affordable disc golf option for the whole family.

The par-72, heavily forested Lynx course was built in 2009 and offers 18 holes along 6,000 feet with Mach X targets, while the 66-par Bobcat, built in 2015, is 4,788 feet and features Mach 2 targets; both courses have raised wooden tees.

The 9-hole option offers 1,642 feet of par-28 play, mixed-surface tees, and Mach 2 targets; no dogs are allowed on any of the courses.

The tees are wooden platforms, there are bathrooms on-site, and drinking water is also available. While The Bear is pay-to-play, you can utilize all of DR’s courses for one fee at either location, if you are so inclined.

Like the three DR courses in Orrington, there are no dogs allowed at The Bear, which was also designed by Dave Enman and is open year-round.

Moderately hilly and wooded, this course—which was designed in 2019 by Henry Grover—offers an easier front 9, while the back 9 provides more challenges.

Players love that the friendly owners live on-site—and while this is an honor box, pay-to-play spot during the week, they man the well-provisioned pro shop on the weekends.

You’ll find Mach 3 targets and rubber tees along the 5,300-foot course; dogs are allowed and bathrooms are available.

Built in 2013 on the campus’s former ROTC training area, this year-round course is 6,512 feet and features natural tees and DISCatcher targets.
