Bath tattoo artist

A Bath tattoo artist

When choosing a tattoo artist, most folks—like me—tend to take some time to shop around…and rightly so. Not only is body art a substantial investment, but it’s pretty much permanent—unless you want to make another substantial investment to have it removed or covered up.

In other words, it’s worth your time and effort to do a bit of homework first before booking your appointment…which is where I come in.

If you live in or are visiting the Bath area and are thinking of getting inked, you’ll have options both within the city and within a short commute.

This list will help you become a bit more familiar with your options, and perhaps even guide you to the perfect artist for the job—one that you’ll undoubtedly return to time and again. Because—take it from one who knows from experience—like potato chips, you can never have just one tattoo.

Old Bones Tattoo Company

Talented. Friendly. Immaculate space. Professional. Precise. These are just a few of the words from the many five-star reviews of the Old Bones Tattoo Company and its staff.

Multiple artists with varying specialties (fine line, botanical, traditional, portraiture, black and grey, and more) are available in this bright, organized, comfortable loft studio, which means you’ll have no problem finding someone who’ll bring your chosen image to life. And if you aren’t sure what you want, they can help with that too; make an appointment for a consultation with your chosen tattooist.

Sacred Fire Tattoo & Art Studio

This appointment-only studio currently features three artists, each able to ink pretty much anything you’d like, but also with their own preferred niches. It is recommended you peruse their social media, which also acts as an online portfolio, to determine which tattoo professional to book your appointment with.

From black and grey to bold color work, tiny flash pieces to entire sleeves, and intricate botanicals to creepy skulls—the realm of possibilities here is endless.

High Tide Tattoo Company of Brunswick

Between the easy, familial atmosphere and the sheer talent of the artists here, chances are you’re not going to leave without at least making an appointment.

At High Tide Tattoo Company—which is just 7 minutes from downtown Bath—the staff goes out of their way to ensure your comfort and are happy to spend time working with you to make your body art a true masterpiece.

No matter the style, size, or subject matter, they’ll take it on; appointments are usually required but check High Tide’s social media—last-minute spots open up from time to time for walk-ins.

Black Element Tattoo

Affordable custom tattoos in neo-traditional, realism, portraits, and black and grey styles are just the beginning of what you’ll be able to choose from at Black Element Tattoo.

Owner and artist Chris Chubbuk takes your idea and brings it to life; clients repeatedly describe their tattoos as so much better than they ever imagined they could be, thanks to his talent, creativity, and patience.

Just over 10 minutes from Bath, the Black Element Tattoo studio is clean and comfortable, Chris is professional and uber-talented, and the prices are right.

Bespoke Tattoo Company

Owned and operated by Brunswick native Taylor Stephen Peck-Moad, Bespoke is a one-man show located 11 minutes from Bath. Offering a unique and unexpected vibe, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into the sitting room of a boutique bed and breakfast rather than a traditional tattoo studio—and the entire experience follows suit.

Taylor loves black and grey illustrative work, specializing in dot work botanical, natural, and geometric subjects—but his talent extends far beyond these styles. He works by appointment only and suggests you review his work online before booking to make sure his spectacular skillset meets your needs.

Stay Lost Tattoo Studio & Gallery

Consummately professional and clearly passionate about their top-notch ink artistry, the tattooists at Stay Lost have received extensive accolades for their talent, friendliness, and ability to bring out the best art possible from the vaguest of client ideas.

Specializing in ritual, large-scale (think whole body) tattoo projects among other more traditional styles and sizes, you’ll need patience if you want to get inked here because the artists book up months in advance; they are always available to discuss your body art visions, however, for future appointments. And, since Stay Lost is only 20 minutes from Bath, you can even stop in to talk face-to-face.

Kats Piercing & Tattoo

Accepting walk-ins whenever possible (check social media for availability) as well as booking appointments for piercings and tattoos, the staff at Kats is highly skilled, whether the skill in question is inking or piercing.

Located just 20 minutes from the center of Bath, Kats enjoys predominantly return clients and referrals, which is a great indication for anyone trying to find an experienced tattoo artist.

One peek at the photos on social media will tell the story: These professionals are amazing at whatever they set their tattoo guns (or piercing needles) to.

Align Tattoo

Having undergone many name, location, and staff changes since opening in Lewiston back in 2007, Align (and its staff) has finally settled on a spot, its specialties, and its sense of self. Under 25 minutes from Bath, Align offers clients a roster of artist talent that has the level of skill needed to give you exactly what you want—and as they say on their website, all they need from you is your trust.

The studio is comfortable and has a boutique feel to it, and both tattoos and piercing are on offer here; initial consultations are suggested prior to booking.

Tsunami Tattoo

Located 35 minutes away from Bath, Tsunami Tattoo opened in 2003, offering clients a unique, enriched tattoo experience in bespoke, beautiful surroundings.

The artists here like to say that they are “making a lifelong impact on you, and we take this responsibility very seriously.” All of the tattooists’ work is available for viewing online, as are their bios—and I can tell you from experience that you’ll struggle to choose just one.

There isn’t a style out there that these talented artists don’t do (and do well); they work by appointment only here—no walk-ins—and if you’re not sure what you want, you can make an appointment for a consultation, first.
