A Kennebunkport b&B sign
The seaside resort town of Kennebunkport draws well-heeled tourists by the thousands to Southern Maine every year; this former fishing village is now a coastal destination for visitors craving quintessential New England charm —without sacrificing modern amenities, of course.

And whether for lack of space or due to preservation and historic bylaws, you won’t find any big-name chain hotels in the immediate area; rather, you’ll encounter an embarrassment of wealth in the bed and breakfast department.

Travelers looking for a more personal and intimate lodging experience will find they’ll have plenty of fabulous spots to choose from in Kennebunkport; all are smoke-free, and some allow children and pets, as noted.

The Lodge on the Cove

A Kennebunkport Resort Collection (KRC) property, The Lodge on the Cove doesn’t necessarily fit the typical bed and breakfast profile—but in my estimation, if it has beds and breakfast is included…well, you see where I’m going with this.

With plenty of colorful guestrooms—including several pet-friendly ones—to choose from, this lively spot is perfect for families and groups.

Offering king and 2-queen rooms with amenities like refrigerators, microwaves, semi-private decks, private bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, AC, coffee makers, and WiFi, the folks at The Lodge also provide a complimentary light continental breakfast each morning of your stay. The Cottages at Cabot Cove

Yet another partner in the Kennebunkport Resort Collection, this property also isn’t a typical, historic-home-style bed and breakfast.

And yet—there are beds, and there is breakfast included…and these dainty, spa-like cottages are just so darn cute I had to include them.

It’s like a secret cul-de-sac of 16 fairy houses alongside Cabot Cove—each offering different décor, appointments, and sleeping arrangements, ranging in size from 285 to 401 square feet.

All feature private patios, kitchens (microwave, coffee pot, cooktop, and refrigerator), high-end linens, daily housekeeping, WiFi, AC, ceiling fans, heat, and private baths. And a satchel full of homemade baked goods, fresh juice, and fruit will magically appear at your door every morning, as well as an afternoon snack delivery.

Seasonal: Yes; open mid-May through October.

Old Parsonage Guest House

Build in 1857, the Old Parsonage Guest House falls back into the familiar territory of the historic home bed and breakfast. But don’t let its birthdate fool you—there are modern amenities like WiFi and AC in the four guestrooms at this former Baptist parsonage.

Two rooms have private, en suite bathrooms, and two rooms share a bath—perfect for families. A family-style gourmet breakfast is served daily in the dining room, and complimentary parking passes are available for nearby beaches.

Seasonal: Yes; open May through October.
Children allowed: Yes.
Pets permitted: No.

There are twelve recently updated guestrooms and one new cottage to choose from, all with AC, flat-screen TVs, WiFi, and private baths; several rooms have extra amenities like gas fireplaces, refrigerators, second bedrooms, and microwaves.

The cottage offers two bedrooms, a porch, a private entrance, and a kitchenette. A boxed continental breakfast is included each day of your stay, and complimentary bikes and kayaks are available for guests’ use.
