Camping gear near Lake Sebago, Maine
Maine may be known for its rocky coastline and nautical vibe—but the Pine Tree State is also home to myriad freshwater lakes and ponds.

Lake Sebago is the deepest in the state, and second only to Moosehead Lake in size.

It is clean enough to drink from without filtration, and with nearly 48 square miles of such pristine, inviting water, folks flock here year-round.

In my experience, many lake folks tend to be outdoorsy folks—so it only stands to reason that there are campgrounds a-plenty in this popular lakes region.

Two other bodies of water—Long Lake and Brandy Pond—can be reached via boat from Sebago, and there are many other beautiful lakes to explore in the area; a centralized campground is a perfect way to do so.

All sites are open and sunny and feature water/electric hookups as well as a picnic table and fire pit.

There are communal toilets and hot showers, a store, a playground, a horseshoe pit, and kayak rentals available at this pet-friendly campground, and you can also rent one of eight comfortable cottages (no pets allowed in the cottages, though).

Point Sebago Resort

If the phrase “roughing it” gives you hives, then perhaps consider glamping at Point Sebago Resort, located on the northern end of Sebago Lake. Sure, these hybrids are still technically tents…but being made of canvas is basically where the similarity ends.

These luxe, two-bedroom tents each sleep 5 and feature a private bathroom “pod,” deluxe linens, an electric fireplace, AC, and many other amenities you’d never expect while camping.

There are also RV sites and cabins available here—but glamping sounds far better, IMHO.

This pet-friendly resort also offers a whole host of amenities—like on-site dining options, a marina, an 18-hole championship golf course, a kids’ water park, a fully-stocked general store, organized activities, themed gatherings, and much, much more.

Nestled on the shores of peaceful Trickey Pond and just a few minutes away from Lake Sebago’s northern end, Loon’s Haven has been around since 1961.

That’s a lot of camping expertise! With waterfront and wooded sites, glamping tents, and a variety of cabins on offer, there are accommodations to meet every expectation here.

Amenities include two beaches on the pond, an on-site café, and rentals for canoes, kayaks, and SUPs; there are also ballfields and courts, yard games, a playground, and a recreation hall.

Perched on 43 acres along Long Lake’s shores, Four Seasons has a variety of wooded and open sites for all manner of camping vehicles and tents, all with full hookups.

There is a sunny beach, boating facilities (harbor, ramp, and docks), non-motorized watercraft rentals, a playground, a game room, ballfields, and lawn games are also available.

Nature’s Wilderness RV Lodge

This family-operated RV lodge is a favorite of ATV enthusiasts—and contrary to what the name implies, you don’t need an RV; there are cabins for rent—and tents are welcome, also.

Featuring 12 miles of 4-wheeling trails through all manner of terrain, folks return to Nature’s Wilderness year after year to get muddy.

And when you’re ready to cool off, there are three ponds on the property for swimming, paddling, or fishing.

There are also planned activities and themed events—and Lake Sebago’s west shore is just over 15 minutes away, for when you’re in the mood for a bigger body of water.
