For many folks, the term “camping” elicits images of backwoods trekking, mountain streams, and roughing it—all legitimate imagery, for sure.
And in Maine, there is certainly an abundance of this sort of camping…but with the Pine Tree State’s variety of environments and topography, there are also dozens of oceanfront campgrounds available, offering all manner of seaside-centric activities.
And—bonus!—many of these coastal spots are still close enough to forests, rivers, lakes, and mountains to scratch those more terrestrial types of outdoor activity itches, as well.
Whether you favor campgrounds with loads of amenities and ready-made activities, or remote coastal state park campsites, Maine has it all.
