Marginal Way coastline in Ogunquit, Maine
When visiting downtown Ogunquit, replete with a lively nightlife, myriad dining options, and a slew of boutiques and galleries, it’s easy to forget you’re also a stone’s throw from the ocean.

Abenaki for “beautiful place by the sea,” Ogunquit tempts visitors to forget about their budgets with reckless abandon—and why not? It’s vacation, after all.

But there is a way to trim back on a bit of your spending while enjoying all that rampant beauty; rather than emptying your wallet at a high-end hotel or bed and breakfast, perhaps consider checking out one of the many campgrounds in the Ogunquit area (driving times from Ogunquit center are included in the listings below).

Most feature comfortable, cabin-style accommodations as an alternative to tenting, and some have many unexpected amenities.
