Western View Golf & Pub
This popular public course features 9 holes and 2,750 yards of meticulously kept, challenging fairways; it is said to be one of the top-rated golf facilities in the area.
The only golf club within Augusta city limits, Western View is a par-35 course, offering a lively, family-friendly pub (the “19th hole” in golf-speak) and has been in business since 1935.
The restaurant is open during the winter, and dedicated golfers can also take advantage of Western View’s state-of-the-art golf simulator to keep on top of their game during those long, dark days of Maine winters.

Augusta Country Club
Located on beautiful Lake Cobbosseecontee, the Augusta Country Club is actually located in the town of Manchester, less than 15 minutes from the city in its misleading moniker.
Founded in 1916, this 18-hole, par-70 championship course is one of the oldest in the Augusta area and offers 6,008 yards of tree-lined, rolling fairways.
Each hole features five tee placements to allow players to modify the difficulty and distance according to their skill level, and there are several holes that offer tactical challenges such as water features and bunkers.
The club also has a tennis program, boat slips, and a private, sandy beach for members.

Natanis Golf Course
This highly-rated, 72-par public course opened in 1965 and offers players 36 regulation holes between its two courses, Arrowhead (6,338 yards) and Tomahawk (6,607 yards).
Only 15 minutes from downtown Augusta, the rolling greens and fairways of Natanis are sprinkled with various sand traps and water hazards, and the surrounding environs are beautiful and well-kept.
There is a 3,000-square-foot, full-service clubhouse, a pro shop, two large practice greens, and even a standard-size croquet course.

Waterville Country Club
Offering players 18 holes and 6,412 yards of top-notch golf, the Waterville Country Club is another misnomer, as it is located in Oakland, 20 minutes from Augusta’s city center.
Sharing the title of oldest club in the Augusta area with the Augusta Country Club, this establishment also opened in 1916, and frequent players cite the “fast and tricky greens” of this Geoffrey Cornish-designed course as a big draw.
This semi-private club has a full-service restaurant and a well-stocked pro shop, and members love the friendly staff and well-groomed facilities; a true “hidden gem in central Maine that will steal your golfing heart.”

Cobbossee Colony Golf Course
Cobbossee Colony is just over 20 minutes from downtown Augusta and features an affordable 9-hole, 2,351-yard course with a par of 34.
This family-owned, public facility offers club and cart (both pull and powered) rentals, and there is a driving range as well as a practice green. Golf lessons are available by appointment at Cobbossee Colony, and no tee time reservations are necessary—which is a refreshing change for those with busy schedules trying to fit in a quick round.
There is a clubhouse with snacks and beverages, and frequent players cite the lack of long wait times and crowds as a huge bonus.

Pine Ridge Municipal Golf Course
This par-3 course opened in 1963 and has 2,870 yards of play; formerly only a 9-hole course, Pine Ridge is just over 20 minutes from Augusta and recently opened the new back 9, eradicating the establishment’s status as “one of only four short golf courses” in Maine.
The meticulous greens are proudly described as postage-stamp-sized and are surrounded by features like bunkers and areas of rough. Golf lessons and club repair services are available, there is an on-site steakhouse, and if you’re so inclined, there is league play for men, women, juniors, and couples.

Sheepscot Links Golf Course
One of the “newer” courses on this list, the 9-hole, 2,874-yard Sheepscot Links opened in 2001. Featuring carefully groomed, rolling fairways lined by mature hardwoods and evergreens, you can rent both motorized and manual carts at Sheepscot Links, as well as clubs.
Greens fees are very reasonable, and golf lessons are also available at this well-groomed course—which is just over 20 minutes from downtown Augusta.

Belgrade Lakes Golf Club
This 18-hole regulation course offers players 6,629 yards of par-71 golf play and is less than 25 minutes from the center of Augusta.
This public “country club for the average guy” provides a casual golfing experience with a beautiful course that blends seamlessly with the rugged Maine landscape features.
Much of the scenery you’ll encounter here is postcard-worthy, and even the bunkers and sand traps add to the visual appeal (as well as the difficulty level). There is a snack bar with a deck, and the property is pet-friendly.

The Meadows Golf Club
The Meadows is a gorgeous, par-68, world-class golf course designed by Bradley Booth in 1998 and features 18 holes and 5,814 yards of rolling greens and sweeping fairways.
While dotted with tricky water hazards and bunkers, The Meadows is ideal for all skill levels. A state-of-the-art game simulator with E6 software is available, as are lessons, and there is a full-service, year-round restaurant onsite as well—all less than 25 minutes from Augusta.

Springbrook Golf Club
Known for being a scrupulously-kept course, Springbrook is less than half an hour from Augusta and provides 18 holes and 6,383 yards of par-71 play.
With its namesake brook wending its way through the well-tended greens and fairways, the beauty of the course belies its difficulty—but have no fear if you are a novice because there are four levels of tees to accommodate all abilities.
There is a snack bar in the beautiful post-and-beam clubhouse; there is also a pro shop on the property as well as various league nights.
