Wicked Goods Mercantile
While Freeport, Maine is known primarily for its big-name retail outlets—it is, after all, the home of all things L.L. Bean, including the Outlet and Flagship stores—this coastal town has far more to offer the intrepid, gift-seeking tourist than brand names and chain stores.
Take a stroll beyond the central hub of familiar franchise storefronts and you’ll find an entire realm of unique shops and boutiques just waiting to meet all your gifting needs—and you’ll more than likely be supporting a local, small business, to boot.
Map of Freeport Gift Shops
This map has all of the Freeport gift shops mentioned in this article, so you can shop with confidence next time you’re in the area.
The Mangy Moose
When visiting the Pine Tree State, most folks want to bring home gifts that speak to Maine’s rugged, natural beauty, which of course, includes pine trees, rocky coastal scenes…and moose.
So, for all things Mainey and moosey, head to the Mangy Moose.
Whether you’re looking for a framed original Maine flag, a book by a Maine author, a Portland Head Light sticker, or any sort of wearable Maine gear, you’ll find it here.
Maine-made jewelry, candles, home goods, and stationery alongside plenty of other U.S.A.-made gift items can be found here…and if you happen to be in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, at some point, there is a Mangy Moose (with location-specific wares, of course) there, too.
Location: 112 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Palmer & Company
This cheerful, family-run shop features an ever-changing crop of unique and delightful gifts for one and all.
Bright, airy, and abundant with bespoke, curated items, Palmer & Company is a feast for the senses. Colorful home décor, scented candles, gourmet snacks and condiments, whimsical greeting cards, cookbooks, and much more are on offer here.
As a matter of fact, you may find that, because there are so many products to choose from, you just might have to take a few home for yourself.

Freeport Emporium
For the collector or the eclectic on your gift list, head to the Freeport Emporium, a trusted purveyor of consigned antique and vintage furniture, collectibles, décor, and other miscellaneous, random ephemera of bygone eras.
Customers rave about the fabulous prices, friendly service, and wide selection here—notably furniture, books, toys, and gift items, but there are far too many things to even begin to list here.
I found a couple of sets of vintage, etched Collins glasses in metal caddies here for an amazing price—so I bought one as a gift…and one for me. I swear, my gin & tonics taste better.

British Goods
If you’re looking for a little piece of home to gift to someone from across the pond (or simply for the Anglophile in your life), British Goods will have what you’re looking for.
In business since 1985, this family-run establishment has (or can procure) whatever you’re looking for from England (or Ireland, Scotland, and Wales).
Teas, food, apparel, bath and body items, kitchen and home goods, stationery, toys, games, jewelry…a thumpin’ good show, old boy.
Location: 123 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Georgetown Pottery
Since 1972, Georgetown Pottery (with locations in Freeport, Georgetown, and Woolwich) has been offering locally-handcrafted porcelain pottery, all hand-painted and/or glazed.
It’s amazing to see just how many useful items for the home—other than dishes and serving ware—can be made from pottery, like lighting, drawer pulls, clocks, and hummingbird feeders, for example.
Their Ikebanas vases are nationally acclaimed—you’ll find these alongside many other gorgeous pottery pieces, as well as jewelry, glasswork, and furniture, most crafted by local artisans.
Location: 148 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Abacus
I’ve said it time and again—Abacus is one of my favorite Maine stores.
I’m a fan of local art as gifts, and Abacus is a perfect example of a combination art gallery and gift shop.
Unique, handmade items adorn every surface (even the ceiling, so be sure to look everywhere); sculptures, lighting, wall décor, jewelry, home goods, cards, ornaments, and more can be found at the Freeport location.
And if you happen to be in Boothbay Harbor, Portland, Kennebunkport, or Ogunquit, you can visit Abacus there, too.
Location: 36 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Fiore Artisan Olive Oils & Vinegars
Whether or not you have any hard-core cooking fanatics on your gift list, Fiore is a great option for other unique kitchen-centric items and home goods, too.
But if you do happen to have any chefs to buy for, run—don’t walk—to purchase some of the high-quality virgin olive oils and vinegars from this shop.
These acclaimed products were featured on Gordan Ramsay: Uncharted! and the tasting room here is always busy.
But no matter how busy they are, the helpful staff are always ready to help you curate the perfect assortment for a customized gift basket or box.

Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop
Open year-round, Sherman’s is a local institution—in Freeport (since 1998), and also in the other five coastal Maine communities these book shops can be found in.
The owners of these award-winning stores pride themselves in customer service, with staff always available to help you find that certain book or gift item you’re looking for.
Sherman’s has a separate Maine authors section, and also features a wide selection of journals, stationery, calendars, and puzzles, along with many book-related products to round out the perfect bibliophile gift basket.

Island Treasure Toys
Pretty much everyone has children on their ongoing gift list at some point or another—so be sure to stop into Island Treasure Toys to cross a few items off that portion of your list.
With locations also in Yarmouth, Kennebunkport, and Bath, this shop full of wonders has won Down East Magazine’s Best of Maine Award twice and features popular brands like Lego, Playmobil, Squishables, and Kid Made Modern.
There are also puzzles, books, and games, as well as home goods and gift items for adults.

Wilbur’s Candy Shoppe
As I’ve said before, nobody snubs their nose at a gift of candy—especially handmade, local chocolates.
Wilbur’s was established in Freeport in 1983 (they also have a location in Brunswick) and has been crafting their amazing confections there ever since.
And while you can find Maine-made gift items other than chocolate and candy here (Moxie apparel, Bar Harbor Teas, Maine Jams & Jellies, and more), it’s really all about the chocolate, IMHO.
Whether you pick out your own selection of delights or go with a pre-packaged assortment or gift basket, you can’t go wrong with a gift from Wilbur’s.
