Way Way General Store
While the city of Saco can’t boast of the same youthful demographic as her twin sister (Biddeford, with a median age of 29), this former mill town certainly holds her own when it comes to comforts and conveniences for residents and visitors alike.
And the speed at which Saco has been experiencing its own revitalization may be slow—as compared to Biddeford’s, anyway—but it’s been undeniably steady.
Take the increase in the number of small shops, boutiques, and specialty stores in town, for example. No need to haul your buckets up the interstate to Portland anymore to get a gift—there are more than enough to choose from right here in Saco.

Whimsical Maine
If you’re one of those people that love to bring home gifts that are representative of the region you vacationed in, Whimsical Maine is where you should begin your shopping—it could be the only stop you need to make.
More than half of the items you’ll find here are made in Maine (a portion of which were created by two Saco artists), including Portland’s Sea Bags, Boothbay Harbor’s Seawicks Candles, and much more.
The remainder of the unique gifts stocked at Whimsical Maine are sourced throughout New England, like pottery, jewelry, décor, and handmade soap.

The Way Way Store
Featured on the National Register of Historic Places, The Way Way Store (as in, it was “way, way out of town” back in the day) was built in 1920 as a traveler’s rest stop—and you can still see the original cash register and scale on display.
An old-time general store to the core, The Way Way Store is a great spot to score nostalgic penny candy or candy by the pound, local maple syrup, fresh cheese, and produce…and make sure you get an ice cream cone for the road before you leave.

Charcutemarie
Food as a gift? Absolutely. Beautifully-arranged, almost-too-gorgeous-to-eat-food as a gift? Infinitely better.
One look at any of the gift boards or boxes from Charcutemarie (such a clever name, too) and you’ll agree. With four sizes of boards laden with artisanal cheese, cured meats, and a mélange of yummy things like dried fruit, nuts, and olives—as well as a hearty, colorful crudité board—on offer, the talented folks here can help your gift elicit that “wow” response every gift giver is looking for.
There are even charcuterie “cones,” perfect for mobile munching at cocktail parties.
