a thin-crust Freeport pizza
To many, Freeport is synonymous with outlet shopping—specifically, L.L. Bean outlet shopping. And yes, there are plenty of purportedly discounted stores lining the streets and plazas of Freeport—but there are many dining options, as well.

Finding that perfect deal is hungry work, you know…and Freeport sweetens the deal by ensuring almost all of your eating options are within walking distance of wherever you end up parking your car.

With all those restaurants, it only stands to reason that there will be a plethora of pizza establishments among them—and what better way to fuel your day of bargain-hunting than with a hot, fresh pizza?

Map of Freeport Pizza Places

Looking for the best pizza places in Freeport? This map of the restaurants from this page will help you get your next meal in no time:

Antonia’s Pizzeria

This locally-owned restaurant serves up a Greek, Italian, and American hybrid menu, which means it has something for almost everyone to love.

The dining area is bright and casual and features a full-length bar—perfect for enjoying a made-to-order pie, a craft beer, and convivial conversation with your bartender.

There are 22 different signature pizzas to choose from—and you can always build your own if you don’t see one you like (with 43 toppings on offer, there are a multitude of combinations).

For the brave of heart (and palate), try the Cajun Queen: Shrimp, onion, roasted red pepper, Italian sausage, provolone, and cheddar topped with zippy Cajun spices.

Location: 193 Lower Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Derosier’s

“Feeding Freeport since 1904,” Derosier’s is owned by the great-great-grandson of the original owner, Augustus Derosier.

In addition to their homemade pizzas, Derosier’s menu also includes hot and cold subs, salads, and ice cream.

Pies come in three sizes—10”, 14”, and 16”—or by the slice, and a 10” gluten-free crust is also available with any pizza.

Order one of their dozen signature pies, or create your own; I recommend getting the Crab Rangoon pizza—the Chinese American appetizer go-to in a delicious pizza presentation! Genius, I say…

Brickyard Hollow

Like peanut butter and jelly, pizza and beer just seem to go together—so it was a wise move when Brickyard Hollow decided to add craft pizza to their craft beer offerings.

And no matter whether you choose to dine in, carry out, or have your pizza delivered, it’s going to taste just as amazing…because trust me—this is no “let’s just add a few pizzas to the menu” kind of situation.

And while there isn’t a build-your-own option, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to find something that appeals to your appetite in their list of 22 signature pies. My suggestion would be the capicola, pineapple, and hot honey pizza.

Petrillo’s Food and Drink

This warm, inviting spot offers both indoor and outdoor dining, including an extensive bar.

Their 12” and 18” pies are made-to-order, and the menu offers 13 specialty pies as well as a make-your-own option (all pizzas—except for the gluten-free—can also be made as calzones).

There are also plenty of non-pizza items on offer at Petrillo’s, but since I’m here to tell you about pizza, I’ll do you a solid and recommend my favorite: Dom’s Pie, which is a heavenly collaboration of my favorite flavors, namely Italian sausage, goat cheese, roasted red pepper, herbs, and red sauce.

Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro

I love the décor and vibe here almost as much as I adore their menu.

Casual, rustic, and warm, it’s the type of place that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the whole experience. Their seven brick oven pizzas all come with a choice of salad (I love the Gorgonzola Beet), and ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible.

And honestly, it’s killing me to suggest just one of these pies, because I love them all…but if I must: Try the Funghi, a delightful creation with Alfredo sauce, roasted shiitake, cremini, and Portobello mushrooms, thyme, sweet onions, and taleggio, fontina, mozzarella, and pecorino cheeses.

Broad Arrow Tavern

Located at the historic Harraseeket Inn, the Broad Arrow Tavern is another spot that invites you to settle in and enjoy your meal.

Watch your brick oven pizza be cooked to perfection in the open-concept kitchen—if you can stand the anticipation. Using as many organic ingredients as possible, these pies are taste sensations—regardless of whether you create your own or opt for one of their three signature pizzas.

But these folks know their stuff—so trust them (and me) and give their Wild Mushroom Pancetta pizza a whirl: Crème Fraiche and ricotta blend, wild mushrooms, pancetta, and grated gruyere.

Gritty McDuff’s Brew Pub

With two other locations (Auburn and Portland), Gritty’s is technically a chain…but still small enough of an operation that they haven’t lost sight of what’s important.

And while they don’t have an entire pizza section on the menu, they do have a moderately customizable pie option. Start with a 14”, hand-stretched crust, and then choose up to six toppings to make your own perfect pizza.

Sam’s Italian Foods

Another local chain-style eatery (12 other locations in Maine), Sam’s closed down last fall due to Covid staffing issues, but after a recent change in ownership, will be opening back up this summer—much to the relief of their many faithful followers.

In addition to a menu full of traditional Italian dinner classics, hot and cold sandwiches and wraps, calzones, and even breakfast, Sam’s pizzas are hugely popular with locals and tourists alike.

Three sizes (7”, 10”, and 14”) are available, and you can choose from either a dozen specialty pies or 20 toppings to create your own pizza.

Doherty’s North Freeport Store

Removed from the retail ballyhoo on Route One, Doherty’s is a place you have to seek out—but if you’re looking for fresh, affordable, grab-and-go pizza, then the extra minute or two of driving will be well worth it.

The folks at this family-run convenience store makes their dough fresh daily, and whole pizzas are made-to-order.

There are two sizes available (10” and 16”), as well as a 12” gluten-free crust for the half-dozen specialty pizzas and the build-your-own pies.

Location: 130 Wardtown Rd, Freeport, ME 04032

Maine Beer Company

Another spot for experiencing the happy marriage of craft pizza and craft beer, the Maine Beer Company features five 12” pizzas to choose from, as well as twelve additional toppings to use as you wish to create your own or embellish the existing pies.

Their Ebb Tide pizza is my favorite: Lamb, blistered tomatoes, red onion, feta, peppadew peppers, tzatziki sauce, and mint.

Location: 525 US-1, Freeport, ME 04032

Alas, I have run out of space yet again…but not before I squeeze in a few more visit-worthy pizza spots. In addition to a Reuben Pizza that will knock your socks off, head to Bow Street Market for fantastic to-go pies.

For a reinvention of the classic, try the Pizza Sticks at Nighthawk’s Kitchen, located at Mast Landing Brewing.

And Fire & Company can cater your special event with their mobile ovens and smokers—and they do far more than pizza.
