Dock Square Emporium

This family-run icon sits at the north side of the bridge into Dock Square, just steps from where folks from around the world pose under the much-photographed metalwork “Welcome to Kennebunkport” sign.

Those same folks then typically wander into the Emporium to pick up a memento or gift for the folks back home, emblazoned with pride of place and seaside motifs.

Happynest by Maili

Happynest is located just a few doors down from Dannah—and I always make a point of visiting both shops when I’m out in that direction.

This is one of my favorite haunts for housewarming or hostess gifts—and I never leave empty-handed.

Carefully-curated items for the home, beautiful jewelry and accessories, garden goods, bath & body care, books—and so much more.

The Candy Man

I’ll give you a lollipop if you can guess what this store sells. Although is no need to trumpet the wares so obviously, because the smell of chocolate that drifts into the street is enough to draw foot traffic.

The folks at The Candy Man have been making most of the gift-worthy treats by hand since 1983—but there is also plenty of nostalgic penny candy by the pound available to bring home.

Island Treasure

For the wee ones on your gift list, head to Island Treasure toy shop—just prepare to perhaps experience an accidental nudge as an overly exuberant child jostles by on a hobby horse.

Island Treasure has four locations, so if there is something you have in mind that doesn’t seem to be on the shelves, ask one of the “play experts” for assistance—they can probably get you what you’re looking for from one of the other shops.

Oh—and they do a darned good job at gift wrapping, too.

Maine-ly Drizzle

This is my go-to spot for hostess gifts (and I use their oils every night when cooking dinner).

In addition to pre-assembled gift baskets, there are plenty of cooking-related items to choose from alongside dozens of oil and vinegar flavors, so you can curate your own gift.

The helpful folks here can point out which oil blends perfectly with which vinegar, and you can find recipes for said products on the Maine-ly Drizzle website.

Abacus Gallery

Abacus is my favorite “for me” gift shop. All of the items here are artisan-made—sculptures, prints, calendars, glasswork, and more—and just when I think I’ve found the ideal painting or print for so-and-so, it somehow ends up on my wall.

Abacus also has several locations in Maine, which means they can source specific items if they don’t have exactly what you want in-store.

Compliments Gallery

This gallery of gifts is one of those places you could wander through for hours and still see something new after passing the same area 4 times.

Gorgeous, whimsical, and elegant collections of jewelry, lighting, artwork, calendars, figurines, and much more can be found at Compliments—where the window displays alone are works of art.
