FOLK in Kittery, Maine

FOLK

Many folks only know Kittery as an outlet mecca—a 1-mile swath of venerable retail giants offering their wares at discount and overstock prices.

But this gateway town to Vacationland offers more than chain store, mass-produced shopping.

Kittery, Maine is home to many small business entrepreneurs, artisans, and creatives—which means a huge variety of unique gift ideas just waiting to be discovered.

You just need to know where to look…and that’s why I’m here.

Map of the Best Kittery Gift Shops

This map of Kittery gift shops will make sure you don’t accidentally wander over to New Hampshire:

Just Us Chickens

I’m one of those folks that sometimes chooses wine because I like the label; same with store names.

This cooperative gallery/gift shop is a bright, cheerful space where you can select the perfect, handmade gift from the work of over 30 area artists.

From functional practicality to decorative whimsy—it’s all here, in every medium and form imaginable: Pottery, glasswork, woodwork, paper goods, ceramics, fiber arts, and jewelry. Wares are rotating, and there is always a featured artist of the month.

FOLK

It’s clear that the high-quality products at FOLK have been curated with an eye for elegance, beauty, functionality, and simplicity.

Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to peruse the spa-like apothecary goods, gorgeous greeting cards, extensive home/office goods, apparel, and jewelry; you’ll certainly be able to assemble the perfect gift—and bring home a little something for yourself, as well.

Folk also has an adorable kids’ section, including books, clothing, craft kits, and more.

Tayla Mac Boutique

This colorful, sunny shop feels more like a high-end spa than a retail store; it’s airy, uncluttered, and full of beautiful items that draw the eye from place to place.

Lively, quirky prints, pillows, and tea towels are arranged around pottery, bath and body products, books, clothing, and much more.

The folks at Tayla Mac are passionate about supporting up-and-coming artists—both local and worldwide—and only sell items that are ethically made.

Kittery Trading Post

The Kittery Trading Post has been around since 1938 and has become a destination unto itself—kind of like the Disney World of outdoor goods—with two, sprawling stories of goods.

But don’t get me wrong—you’re going to find far more than fishing rods, outerwear, guns, and camping supplies here.

KTP also has loads of clothing, footwear, and Maine gifts; there’s even a candy shop featuring fudge and saltwater taffy.

Yarrow

The folks at Yarrow have worked tirelessly to build a business that “embraces your head, heart, and home.”

Stocked with delightful, bespoke gift items to help steer your energies into balance through alternative options, Yarrow is a safe, welcoming space, and the helpful people here are all about acceptance and empowerment.

They’ll guide you to what best fits your needs from their collection of journals, oils, crystals, home décor, candles, natural supplements, and much more.

Lost Coast

Are any peeps on your gift list into retro stuff? Prefer vinyl to Apple Music? Pack their lunch in a Doctor Who lunchbox? Then I’ve got the gift shop for you!

The store itself is an eyecatcher, for sure—a blocky, brightly-painted wonder that actually hides a message in its abstract design—and the interior is even more delightful.

Furniture, books, prints, albums, toys, figurines—and a boatload of other random, one-of-a-kind, vintage finds.

Yummies Candy & Nuts

With over 10,000 pounds of yummies on display, Yummies is a local institution.

I have a dear friend who travels an hour each way just to get pistachios for her husband on special occasions—they’re that good.

Homemade fudge and chocolate, familiar and nostalgic candy from yesteryear, oversized cashews…there’s no way you’re leaving this shop empty-handed, whether with booty for your gift recipient or yourself.

Red Door Pottery Studio

Home to the “Handmade by Elaine” cooperative, the Red Door Pottery Studio started as a shop for the store’s namesake’s handiworks—handmade and wheel-thrown works of art and functionality.

These days, you’ll find a collection of other artists’ products here, as well. Prints, jewelry, home and garden items, stationery—so many gorgeous, hand-crafted items, so little time.

When Pigs Fly Company Store

A restaurant—yes. A bakery? Absolutely. But a gift shop? Yes, again!

For kitchen-centric specialty foods and condiments—think oils, spreads, syrups, and sauces—as well as glassware and gift sets, you could easily assemble a unique basket for anyone on your list.

And if you’ll be giving said gift soon, why not add some of When Pigs Fly’s signature, artisan bread or baked goods?

Book Warehouse

While these next three stores are technically housed in an outlet plaza, I felt they were specialized enough to warrant inclusion here.

The Book Warehouse is a great spot to curate a personalized, literary gift basket for pretty much anyone—and you’ll find more than just books to read, here. Journals, coloring books, puzzle books, how-to craft books…you get the idea.

Go! Calendars, Games, & Toys

Located in the same strip mall as the Book Warehouse, this store is another fantastic option for a specialized gift need. And, yes—there are plenty of toys for kids here.

But, as the name implies, you’ll find a gazillion fun and functional gift ideas for everyone else, too: Calendars, books, stationery, games, crafts, novelty items, products for home and office, and décor.
