Just across the Piscataqua River from Portsmouth, NH, Kittery is a town of many personalities.
Many folks know it as one of Maine’s outlet shopping meccas—for good reason—but that is only one of the faces this seaside town wears. The oldest town in Maine, Kittery is also home to an up-and-coming downtown scene called Kittery Foreside.
Tucked away from the strip malls, traffic lights, and fast food, this historic area features all manner of hipster bistros, bars, shops, and galleries.
All this is to say that there is much to like about Kittery—and while the lodging situation isn’t necessarily abundant with options, you won’t come up dry when planning your Kittery vacation. And, if you can’t find exactly what you want in Kittery, you can always consider one of the many accommodation choices in Portsmouth.
Map of Kittery Hotels
Here are all the hotels mentioned in this post, all in a helpful map allowing you to see just how close each lodging option is to nearby attractions:
The Water Street Inn
Situated on the banks of the Piscataqua River, this historic, boutique inn re-opened its doors in 2018. Six of the eight available rooms are located in the Victorian-style, brick main building, and the other two are in The Barn—high-ceilinged, whitewashed spaces full of light and colorful textures.
There is no front desk here—their online, independent check-in process is simple and streamlined—but if you need any assistance with anything during your stay, help is just a text or phone call away. Coffee, tea, water, and snacks are available at all times, there is free WiFi, and there are a plethora of eateries and shops within walking distance.

This “reimagined 1950s motel” is just over the state line—the first hotel you’ll encounter, actually—and is easily accessed from both Interstate 95 and Route One.
Every room in this family-owned-and-run hotel has been renovated and features a mini-fridge, a microwave, coffee and tea, a 43” HD television, and free WiFi. An expanded continental breakfast is included, and families with kids will appreciate the sparkling-clean saltwater pool.
Cottages and suites are also available for larger groups and include kitchenettes.

The rooms are all motel-style and non-smoking; all are well-appointed, clean, and comfortable, and some feature refrigerators and microwaves. The Coachman features complimentary breakfast, newspapers, parking, WiFi, and coffee; there is a community game room, and some rooms are pet-friendly.

Enchanted Nights
It doesn’t get much more Victorian than this delightful, magical inn. “Bordering on flamboyant,” as their website declares, the décor here is a feast for the eyes—and if you are a fan of sparse, spare, or neutral spaces…Enchanted Nights isn’t for you.
Offering nine different rooms—each with its own theme and features—the Enchanted Nights Inn is perfect for special occasions, and some of the accommodations feature whirlpools, gas fireplaces, refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee makers.
Note: The inn no longer serves breakfast, despite the “bed and breakfast” designation, and there is a one-week minimum stay requirement.

Litson Villas
The spiffy little cottages at Litson Villas have been recently updated, renovated, and re-envigorated with new beds and flat-screen televisions.
Open year-round, each of the cabins features a front porch; several different sleeping configurations are available, and many cottages offer kitchenettes.
There is a laundry facility, free WiFi, and a large, roofed BBQ pavilion for up to 30 people. All cabins are smoke-free and dog-friendly (for an extra fee).

Hampton Inn & Suites
Kittery also has its share of franchise hotels. Part of the Hilton Group, the Hampton Inn is always a solid choice. Breakfast is included, rooms are updated and comfortable, and parking is free.
The Hampton Inn also has an indoor pool—handy for families with little ones on those rainy vacation days—and a fitness center. Pet-friendly and connecting rooms are available, and the inn is close to the outlets, Kittery Foreside, and the waterfront.

Ramada
Another chain hotel option, the Ramada—a Wyndham property—also offers free continental breakfast, a fitness center, a sauna, and an indoor pool—although the pool is seasonal.
Located just south of where the outlet shopping zone begins, the Ramada is also close to many dining options, as well as being just a quick jaunt over the river to all that Portsmouth has to offer.

Days Inn
The most affordable of the Kittery franchise hotel options, the Days Inn offers free coffee/tea and a light breakfast item, free WiFi, a seasonal outdoor pool, and basic rooms.
Accommodations are motel-style, and the inn is just a short drive to Kittery attractions, dining, and the waterfront. Mobile check-in is available, and it is recommended to book directly with the hotel rather than through another website.
