In a state where folks get pretty feisty and outspoken about what defines the perfect lobster roll, restaurant owners have their work cut out for them when including this Maine staple on their menu.
And being the gateway city to the Pine Tree State, Kittery has even more pressure to live up to the expectations of both locals and visitors alike regarding these highly controversial crustacean commodities.
But being a shopping outlet mecca has its perks when it comes to dining options, especially when enjoying a coastal locale—because there are always plenty of stellar seafood options around, thus increasing the chances of pleasing one and all.
So, whether you prefer your lobster roll hot or cold, with mayo or without, or jazzed up with some drawn butter or celery, Kittery has the perfect one for you.

In a hurry for seafood goodness? This map lists all of the locations we’ve mentioned here, so you can hurry your way to an incredible lobster roll experience:
Bob’s Clam Hut
Open all year long, Bob’s has been serving their fresh-off-the-boat seafood since 1956.
And having been given the nod by Coastal Living magazine as having one of the best lobster rolls in the state of Maine is nothing to sneeze at, I assure you!
The smart folks at Bob’s know how to please everyone with their signature lobster rolls by offering TWO versions: Warm with drawn butter, or chilled with mayo.
Both are served with fries and a pickle—and you can opt for sweet potato fries for a bit extra.
Bob’s also features beer, wine, and sangria to accompany your meal, which you can enjoy in the casual dining room or outside.

Warren’s Lobster House
Another long-standing, casual establishment, Warren’s has been a family-style fixture on the Piscataqua River since 1940.
Famous for their enormous salad bar, Warren’s also offers diners options when it comes to how they’d like to enjoy their lobster roll.
For a more traditional experience, order the Quarter Pound Lobster Roll: Sweet claw and knuckle meat with lettuce on a grilled hot dog roll, served with fries.
But for a real humdinger of a crustacean situation, get the Baked Stuffed Lobster Roll, which includes as much salad bar love you want: The Quarter Pound Lobster Roll, baked with seasoned Ritz crackers and melted butter.

Robert’s Maine Grill
Robert’s offers a bit more of a refined dining experience but is still comfortably laid-back.
Located in the heart of the outlet hullabaloo on Kittery Point, Robert’s is the perfect spot to rest your aching feet and fill your empty belly during a long day of retail therapy.
Featuring a full bar and an extensive menu, Robert’s offers discerning lobster lovers the choice of enjoying their lobster roll chilled with mayo, or warm and buttered, and it comes with fries or coleslaw.
If you plan to visit in the summer, however—and especially on a rainy, shopping-friendly day—reservations are strongly suggested.

Sue’s Seafood
This seafood market is a local favorite—and the secret is now out: You can get a quarter-pound lobster roll at Sue’s made-to-order for take-out whenever you want your lobster fix on the run.
Consistently reviewed as having one of the best lobster rolls around, Sue’s version is a no-muss, no-fuss delight: A quarter pound of fresh-picked local lobster meat lightly tossed in mayo and then packed into a grilled, top-split hot-dog roll.
No lettuce, no gimmicks, no kidding. The price is consistently below that of other rolls in town—and believe me when I tell you that you get far more than you pay for here.

Weathervane Seafood Restaurant
In 1969, The Weathervane Clam Bar opened its doors in Kittery…and it’s still there today, albeit under a slightly different moniker.
With four other locations in NH, this is the original—and many say, the best.
With a casual, family-style atmosphere and a large, seafood-centric menu, there are more than enough options here—even for any non-seafoodies in your group.
You can order your lobster roll chilled with mayo and celery, or warm with drawn butter; both are served in a toasted hot dog roll and come with French fries and coleslaw.

Frisbee’s Wharf at Pepperrell Cove

The toasted hot dog roll is so stuffed with freshly picked meat—lightly dressed with mayo, no lettuce—that it practically lies flat, hidden beneath the mouthwatering bounty.
It comes with fries—and be sure to peruse Frisbee’s list of signature cocktails. The Pepperrell Punch will add just the right touch of tropical flair to your waterfront meal.

Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier
There’s just something special about a BYOB seafood shack—especially one overlooking the water (which most of them are).
The atmosphere is about as casual and laid-back as it gets, and folks around you all seem to be smiling and laughing.
And why wouldn’t they be, especially if they’re enjoying one of Chauncey Creek’s lobster rolls?
This seasonal local favorite has humble roots—starting out as a gas station (for lobster boats) in the late 30s and slowly added this and that over the years, becoming the institution it is today.
The menu is mostly seafood—with a couple of landlubber options—and the roll here is actually a hamburger bun packed with an oversized ice cream scoop’s worth of fresh lobster meat tossed in a bit of mayo—no lettuce.
And the fact that you can bring your favorite beer, wine, or cocktail with you only makes the whole experience that much better.

Morrison’s Lobsters
This casual, seasonal outdoor eatery specializes in lobster-in-the-rough…and lobster rolls.
Featuring outdoor, waterfront seating, Morrison’s is about as no-frills as you’d expect from a working lobstering operation—with a no-frills lobster roll to match.
A grilled hot dog roll filled with nothing but lightly mayo’d Maine lobster meat, served with chips—all yours to enjoy while watching the sun glint off the river as the seagulls wheel overhead, waiting for you to drop just one tiny morsel.
Yeah—fat chance.
