In my five-and-a-half decades on this planet, I think I’ve met no more than three people who didn’t like pizza.
It comes in so many styles and flavors, it seems it would be nearly impossible for there to not be at least one combination of crust, sauce, and toppings to please everyone.
Me? I’m pretty much a fanatic of all of it: New York, Chicago, deep dish, thin crust, veggies, meat, all the cheeses, white sauce, red sauce, wackadoodle specialty flavors…bring it all on, I say.
And if I’ve been spending the day bouncing from outlet to outlet in Kittery, you can bet I’ve worked up a mad case of the hangries.
Thankfully, Kittery and the surrounding communities have a host of palate-pleasing pizza parlors and take-out counters at the ready to appease even the most aggressive appetite.

When Pigs Fly Restaurant & Pizzeria
Offering brick oven, Neapolitan-style pizza made from scratch with homemade mozzarella and dough, this restaurant is also a bakery, featuring a variety of house-baked bread and other food items.
Broken up into two categories—“With Red Sauce” and “Not With Red Sauce,”—the pizza menu here is chock full of traditional pies like the Margherita (red sauce, oregano, basil, and mozzarella and Romano cheeses), as well as more creative options like the Medjool Date and Soppresatta (which, in addition to the two title ingredients, also has red sauce, oregano, basil, mozzarella, Mike’s Hot Honey, and Romano cheese); you can also top your own pie.
There are also plenty of other fare options available if you happen to not be in the mood for pizza…said nobody, ever.

AJ’s Wood Grill Pizza
With dine-in, take-out, and delivery service on offer, AJ’s Wood Grill Pizza is a local favorite.
Using only house-made, organic dough as well as homemade sauces, dressings, and grilled-in-house meats, you can feel good about feeding your family this delicious fare.
Choose from 16 specialty pizzas (12” or 18”), or peruse the 28 topping options to create your own pie; there are also vegan toppings and a gluten-free crust on offer.
I love the House-Made Sausage pie, with red sauce, sweet or spicy sausage, roasted red peppers, and red onions.
Location: 68 Wallingford Square, Kittery, ME 03904

Town Pizza Restaurant
If you are a deep-dish pizza fan, you’re in luck, because it happens to be Town Pizza’s specialty. Since 1978, this local fixture has been serving up fresh, made-to-order pizzas, grinders, meatballs, and lasagna, as well as hot dinners—all offered at prices that will help you stick to your budget.
Choose from 27 toppings to craft your own signature pie, or opt for one of Town Pizza’s 23 gourmet specialty pizzas; I suggest the Cheeseburger Pizza, with ground hamburger, onions, American cheese, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles.
Location: 15 Wentworth St, Kittery, ME 03904

Badger’s Island Pizza
The New England-style pan-baked pies at Badger’s Island Pizza are made with homemade dough and sauce, as well as a house 2-cheese blend.
You can eat in the classic dining room, bring your pizza home, or have it delivered; no matter how you choose to acquire it, prepare for a taste sensation.
Build your own 10” or 16” pie (or a 12” gluten-free option) by selecting from the list of 25 toppings…or make it easy on yourself and pick one of the 7 specialty pies.
If you’re feeling really hungry, get the House Special: Green peppers, onions, mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage, and hamburger.

Kittery Food Mart
Looking to bring your meal home? The Kittery Food Mart makes everything on their menu to order, including their 10” and 18” pizzas.
There are six specialty pies on offer, as well as 14 toppings to consider when creating your own pizza.
And because two of my favorite things are breakfast and pizza, I’d recommend ordering the Breakfast Pizza, no matter what time of day it is: Scrambled eggs, green peppers, onions, sausage, bacon, pizza cheese, and a drizzle of ketchup around the edge.
Location: 2 Shapleigh Rd, Kittery, ME 03904

Dante’s Pizza Company
Located just five minutes north of Kittery on Route One, Dante’s Pizza Company features Detroit-style pies, made with their own house marinara sauce.
If you aren’t familiar with this type of pizza, you’re in for a surprise—and a yummy one, at that. Baked in a rectangular, 8”x10” deep-dish pan, the crust is fluffy and light—and the surprise I mentioned earlier comes when you realize the sauce is on top of the cheese.
There are 13 variations of these classic Chicago-style pies (any of which you can order as a flatbread or gluten-free) as well as 6 traditional-style specialty pies—such as the CBR: Hand-breaded white meat chicken tenders, thick-cut bacon, secret house cheese blend, and ranch dressing.
Location: 2 US-1, York, ME 03909 (5 minutes)

Sabina’s Pizzeria & Tacquaria
Just over five minutes west of Kittery, Sabina’s Pizzeria and Tacquaria is family-operated and offers both dine-in and delivery service.
In addition to build-your-own and specialty pies, the menu features a wide variety of other fare, such as tacos, burritos, nachos, wings, steak, sandwiches, and more.
And since Sabina’s offers up both pizza and tacos in its name, why not do both at once and order the Taco Pizza, with spicy sauce, cheddar jack cheese, chili, tomatoes, and jalapeños?
Location: 51 Dow Hwy, Eliot, ME 03903 (7 minutes)

Joe’s New York Pizza
The folks at Joe’s make the dough and all of their sauces fresh every day, in-house, for their delicious New York-style pizza—which comes in not two, but three sizes (four, if you count the 12” gluten-free option): 12”, 14”, and 19”.
This shop is less than 10 minutes from Kittery, and not only are there 23 specialty pies to choose from but there are also 25 topping options to concoct your own version of pizza perfection. Because I’m lazy, I always opt for a specialty pie where ever I’m pizza-ing…so trust me and give the Gyro Pizza a try: Gyro meat, cheese, onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce for dipping.
Location: 1981 Woodbury Ave, Portsmouth, NH 03801 (9 minutes)

Luigi’s West End Pizzeria
In addition to being another fantastic New York-style pizza establishment less than 10 minutes from the outlets in Kittery, Luigi’s is also a family-style Italian restaurant in its own right.
Offering take-out, dine-in, and delivery for their reasonably-priced menu, this spot offers a casual vibe to enjoy any (or all) of the 10 different pizza variations—or to scarf down your personally-designed version. My favorite is the Korean Bánh Mi, with pork, ricotta, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, scallions, garlic, and sesame seeds.
Location: 801 Islington St STE 12, Portsmouth, NH 03801 (9 minutes)

Portsmouth Pizza Factory
Just across the street from Luigi’s, Portsmouth Pizza Factory offers affordable pies in three sizes—I suggest the XL—and 13 signature flavors as well as top-your-own, all available for dine-in and delivery.
While consistently clean and comfortable, the vibe here is straight-up classic pizza joint, complete with counter service, choose-your-own chips and soda, and booth seating.
For a pizza that bites back, try The Mexican Pie: Hamburger, salsa, onions, black olives, and jalapeños.
