A hotel room in Rockland, Maine
Growing ever livelier and more hip with each passing year, the city of Rockland used to be just another working-class, coastal town—which it still is, make no mistake about it.

The waterfront is still a working one, with lobstering playing a large role in the city’s economy, but there are plenty of other successful industries at work in the city—such as those related to the arts.

Rockland draws artists and performers of all types, as well as patrons of said arts…which means there is a need for lodging. You’ll certainly have a wide variety to choose from—and whether you stay in the city or opt to head into neighboring Rockport to find accommodations (distances to Rockland’s town center are noted), you won’t have far to travel to find somewhere to lay your head.

250 Main Hotel

This is my hands-down favorite hotel in Rockland—and probably in Maine. A true boutique hotel, 250 Main checks all of my must-have boxes, along with many boxes I never knew needed to be checked until I went there.

“Designed to spark curiosity and evoke excitement,” the eclectic, mid-century modern décor and careful attention to detail combine to create an immersive, luxurious experience; I consider this pet-friendly hotel to be a destination in its own right.

Featuring a rooftop deck overlooking the harbor, a complimentary glass of wine or a beer with snacks every night, a complimentary breakfast-to-go with coffee, and views from almost every room, I always feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven here. There is no in-house restaurant, but you are within walking distance of many options.
