Saco is a former industrial mill city undergoing a slow-but-sure pilgrimage toward an economic revival.
While not exactly abundant with dining and lodging options yet, Saco is still able to offer choices in both realms.
The city’s waterfront area is mostly residential, unlike its neighbor, Old Orchard Beach—whose shores are lined by hotels, amusement rides, and condominiums, all full of tourists come summertime.
Saco’s accommodations are mostly inland along Route One, in the commercial zone, and predominantly feature motels and chain-style lodging; the benefit to this location is close proximity to more dining and shopping options while still being within a short drive to Old Orchard Beach.

If you’re more of the adventurous type, then why not consider camping? This KOA campground offers several of their signature “Kamping Kabins” for those of you that prefer solid walls surrounding you at night—some of them even have bathrooms and kitchens.
While the sprawling campground is technically located on Route One, you’d never know it; surrounded by pine trees and the babbling Mill Brook, you’ll feel as though you were in the northern woods of Maine.
Amenities abound here—heated outdoor pool, adult whirlpool spa, splashpad, sport courts, on-site restaurant, bike rentals, snack shack, and playground equipment are only some of the family-oriented offerings at this local favorite.
