But for hardy locals and the die-hard visitors that enjoy a bracing snowshoe trek in Acadia National Park, for example, there are still a fair few spots that stay open year-round…and what better way to start your below-zero day than with a hot cup of coffee and a plateful of morning joy?
Hey, folks gotta eat, no matter what month it is—and finding a great breakfast in Bar Harbor is an easy task all year long.
Map Of Bar Harbor Breakfast Restaurants
The map below shows the locations of every Bar Harbor breakfast spot mentioned in this post:
Trailhead Café
This family-run gem is the perfect morning stop-off, no matter what time of year it is. Pick up a hearty breakfast sandwich or wrap to go for your foray into Acadia, or enjoy a long, leisurely morning while savoring one of Trailhead’s fresh, fluffy omelets.
The menu ticks all the boxes, and the Batdorf and Bronson specialty coffees are top-notch. To start your day off with a bang, I recommend the Friend of the Devil—one egg, sausage, pepperoni, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and hot sauce…all on a bagel.

Mother’s Kitchen
This local favorite recently joined forces with another popular morning spot, Coffee Matter. So, not only does Mother’s Kitchen now offer a spectacular menu of high-end coffees, teas, and espressos, they also feature a breakfast-to-go menu, including made-to-order sandwiches and freshly-baked scones, bars, and muffins.
Raspberry chocolate chip muffin and Maple Oat Latté? Yup. Sign me up!

A Slice of Eden
This little nook certainly lives up to its name—and other than a brief break for a couple of weeks in late fall, this full-service bakery and café is open the rest of the year.
There are a few tables tucked cozily around the corner from their delightful bakery case, and when the weather accommodates, you can enjoy your meal outside.
While their breakfast menu is limited to bagels, sandwiches, and pastries (no lumberjack breakfasts here), these offerings are more than hearty enough to fill that roaring morning void in your midsection.

Mount Dessert Bakery
Similar to A Slice of Eden, this year-round bakery also serves up fresh bagels, sandwiches, and hot java (along with a lunch menu).
All of their specialty bagel sandwiches are worthy of writing home about, but the Robyn’s Fave—and mine—should be your first order of business: Plain cream cheese, bacon, avocado, and pickled red onions, all on your fresh bagel of choice.
Oh, and if you need a custom cake or pie? They’ve got you covered.

Choco-Latté Café
This place is something special. Open year-round, Choco-Latté is a bustling hub of culinary and artistic activity—literally.
Their walls are adorned with a rotating gallery of local artists’ work—all available for purchase—and their menu is beautiful in its simplicity.
Their breakfast sandwiches and burritos are essentially create-your-own, each made to order and with only the freshest possible ingredients.

2 Cats
Open on weekends only during the off-season, this café is worth the five-day wait.
Their “adventurous plates filled with tasty, homemade fare” have been reviewed in Down East magazine, and their ever-changing menu is always a hit with locals and visitors both.
If you’re looking for an utter taste sensation that will hold you until dinner, try the 3-egg omelet with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and capers.

Jeannie’s Great Maine Breakfast
Open Mother’s Day weekend through mid-October, Jeannie’s Great Maine Breakfast is the perfect name for this diner-style, homey restaurant.
Using only the freshest, local ingredients, everything on the menu is cooked to order; Jeannie’s even makes their own oatmeal bread and strawberry-rhubarb spread.
And while any one of their “Great Maine Breakfast Specialties” are spectacular, perhaps start with the Frenchman Bay Benedict (herb biscuit with spinach, tomato, avocado, and two poached eggs topped with mornay cheese sauce) on your first visit—which will ensure it won’t be your last.

Sunrise Café
This seasonal favorite is known for its sweet and savory crepes—but they also have a host of delectable breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast on their menu.
Also open for lunch, Sunrise features a sizeable coffee bar menu to ensure you start your day off with some pep in your step. Now—who’s up for a Brie, green apple, and prosciutto crepe?

Café This Way
This warm, inclusive, seasonal little shop is snuggled just outside the hustle and bustle of the town center—perfect for a quiet morning repast to start your day.
Open for breakfast and dinner, this quirky, living-room-vibe eatery offers a fun and frolicky menu complete with breakfast cocktails (sign me up for one of their Pomegranate Mimosas), a kids’ menu, and many gluten-free options.
Location: 14 Mt Desert St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609

Lompoc Café and Books
While their menu is diminutive, Lompoc is still one of my top picks for breakfast (and lunch, for that matter).
I love the cozy, friendly atmosphere; between their breakfast sandwich options and their signature Breakfast Banh Mi (pickled veggies, marinated carrots, aioli, harissa, and cilantro topped with a fried egg), I never leave hungry.
Lompoc closes for the winter, but when you do visit, I recommend sticking around for lunch, too, along with a game of Bocce in their courtyard.

Testa’s
Open daily May-October, Testa’s is a testament (sorry—had to) to everything a sit-down breakfast should be.
Since 1934, Testa’s has been tweaking their creative, comfort-food menus to keep up with the times—without abandoning their dedication to working with local purveyors.
And if you don’t try their Lobster Benedict, at least make sure someone in your party does so that you can have a “few” bites.
Location: 53 Main St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609

The Looking Glass Restaurant
Voted Yankee Magazine’s “Best Breakfast with a View,” this seasonal, ocean-front restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating—and if the weather is good, you’d have to be crazy to eat inside (although every seat inside has spectacular views, as well).
The Looking Glass serves up breakfast scrambles, sandwiches, Benedicts, combo plates, and bowls—and you’ll also have a selection of what I call “maple syrup vehicles” (French toast and pancakes) as well as muffins and other breakfast pastries.
Location: 50 Eden St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609

Thrive Juice Bar and Kitchen
Another May-October establishment, Thrive is sorely missed in the off-season.
Their food is predominantly local and organic, and the menu features a wide variety of creatively assembled breakfast toasts, bowls, sandwiches, and burritos.
And, as they are also a juice bar, you’ll have your choice of wholesome, made-to-order juices, smoothies, and even smoothie bowls.
Location: 51 Rodick St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609

Black Friar Pub
Located at the seasonal Black Friar Inn, this restaurant features a full menu of hearty, sit-down-style breakfast meals.
It’s the type of place that consistently makes me wish I were pickier—because trying to decide which meal to order is truly a culinary conundrum.
If forced to narrow it down to just a couple, it’d have to be either their Reuben Omelet or their Scotch Egg Breakfast.
Location: 10 Summer St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609

Whoaaaa, Nellie…I’m gonna have to rein in my reviews, now—but have no fear: I’ve got a half-dozen or so other fine establishments for you to choose from for your breakfast in Bar Harbor.
The Independent Café is a seasonal, upscale market that also offers breakfast-to-go options, as does Everyday Joe’s, a year-round convenience store.
And while Colonel’s Restaurant and Bakery (fantastic donuts), The Pink Pastry Shop (delicious breakfast baked goods), Jordan’s Restaurant (famous for their wild Maine blueberry pancakes), The Reading Room (upscale dining with a view at the Bar Harbor Inn), and The Stadium (for their Lobster Benedict sandwich) are all seasonal, make a point to add each of them to your future in-season Bar Harbor travel itineraries.
