While Freeport is mostly known for its outlet shopping (looking at you, L.L. Bean), there are still plenty of other reasons to visit this seaside town.
Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park is full of trails and views for outdoor enthusiasts, as is Bradbury Mountain State Park. The Desert of Maine is a fantastic day trip for families—and you can even camp there.
And as family-friendly as Freeport is, one might harbor doubts that there would be much of a nightlife…but fear not—because there are also plenty of spots to belly up to the bar and enjoy your libation of choice.
Map of Freeport Bars
This map includes all of the incredible Freeport bars we mention in this post, perfect for your next pub crawl!
Gritty McDuff’s Brew Pub
This microbrewery restaurant manages to be all things to everyone—a full-service restaurant with a traditional tavern atmosphere, and even a playground outside.
But if you are a craft beer fanatic, you’ve come to the right place, because this location produces all of Gritty’s flagship and seasonal ales, in custom 22-ounce bottles.
If beer isn’t your thing, though, Gritty’s also features a full bar, and talented mixologists to concoct your favorite cocktail of choice.
The full menu is available at the bar as well, so you can get an order of Gritty’s Pub Mac ‘n Cheese to go with your Maine Maple Porter.
Location: 187 Lower Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Jameson Tavern
Having been declared “the birthplace of Maine” by the Daughters of the American Revolution, the bartenders at the Jameson Tavern have been sliding drafts down its historic bar since 1779.
Their popular happy “hour” is actually three—from 2:30-5:30 daily—and offers discounted house wines, draft beer, and well drinks. Located next door to the L.L. Bean retail store, the Jameson tends to be busy all day long—so if you’re like me and prefer to sit at the bar, it could be a bit of a wait, especially in-season.
But it’s worth it—the bartenders are friendly, it’s a great people-watching spot, the drinks are strong, and the food is delicious.
Location: 115 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Broad Arrow Tavern
The Broad Arrow Tavern is located at the Harraseeket Inn and is a warm, cozy spot to pull up a stool at the bar and settle in for a hot comfort food extravaganza with a craft cocktail.
The wine list is extensive, and there are plenty of draft or bottled beers available—but do yourself a favor and peruse the cocktail menu; there’s something there for any time of day and any type of spirit preference.
Morning? Get the Harraseeket Bloody Mary. Midday? Then opt for a Kir Royale—house champagne with a splash of Chambord. After-dinner sweet-tooth? Order the Godiva Chocolate Martini.
Location: 162 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Brickyard Hollow
This rustic-industrial craft-brew-craft-pizza spot features a long bar in addition to a dining area, and it is here that most folks congregate.
If you can snag seats at the bar, do so—it’s perfect for getting to know the bartender, and you can ask questions about the beers as you taste them.
I recommend getting a flight of the ones that look most interesting to you—and be sure to get one of their amazing pizzas with it.

Linda Bean’s Maine Kitchen & Topside Tavern
I love sitting at this bar in particular just because it’s so aesthetically pleasing to me; kind of like a flowing, glossy, wooden wave, albeit lime green.
Located directly across the street from the L.L. Bean Flagship Store, you can’t miss this place, with its open porches full of happy, relaxed diners overlooking the intersection.
The bar’s décor and lighting are warm and chic, and the menu is loaded with local seafood and house-made ingredients.
Location: 88 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Petrillo’s Food & Drink
If you’re in the mood for an adult beverage and an Italian meal, then cozy up to the bar at Petrillo’s—because these folks are experts at both.
With plenty of wine, bottled and canned beer, local draft beers, and craft cocktails, you’ll have the perfect sipper to go with your panini, chicken parmesan, pizza, or what-have-you (I’m a fan of the Jalapeño Margarita with a Cuban Panino).
Location: 15 Depot St, Freeport, ME 04032

Buck’s Naked BBQ
Whether or not you’re into BBQ, you’ve gotta check Buck’s out at least once—if you can find a seat at the bar—and order some “Fooze” (read: “Good drinks served with a rib on top”).
For instance, a “Bloody Buck” comes garnished with olives, a banana pepper, lemon/lime…and a honkin’ rib. The atmosphere is lively and fun, and it’s hard not to leave here with a smile (a messy one) on your face.
Location: 568 US-1, Freeport, ME 04032

Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro
I love the vibe here, especially at the bar: it’s elevated but not stuffy, rustic but not shabby, trendy but not stupidly so. And no matter whether your poison is wine, cocktails, or beer—you’ll have plenty of options (love me a two-sided drink menu).
There is a Martini Bar category, as well as one for Signature Cocktails and Cocktails with a Twist—and of course, plenty of beer and wine. They even have a Mocktail section—and the full dinner menu is available at the bar as well.
Location: 140 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Mast Landing Tasting Room
This popular new tasting room features bar seating as well as table/lounge seating and also has an in-house kitchen (Nighthawk’s Kitchen).
Being a brewery, you’ll find no spirits here—and of course, they only serve their own brews. But that shouldn’t be an issue if you like beer—because there are plenty to choose from, and they run the gamut: Stouts, IPAs, lagers, pilsners, sours, and more.
As a wine drinker, I either go for a coffee stout (kind of like a hearty red blend) or a sour (reminiscent of a bubbly rosé).
Location: 200 Lower Main St., Freeport, ME 04032

Antonia’s Pizzeria
Another solid choice for Italian food to accompany your wine at the bar, Antonia’s offers a full bar with plenty of seating and sports on TV.
There are always rotating seasonal local beers on tap, as well as cans and bottles. Antonia’s also features a half-dozen or so each of red and white wines, and a full complement of spirits is available.
Location: 193 Lower Main St, Freeport, ME 04032
Website: Antonia’s Pizzeria
Lobster Cooker and Pub
Happy hour is every day from 3-6 at the Lobster Cooker and Pub, which means $2 off wine and canned or bottled beer.
This sports pub is light, bright, and energetic, and has plenty of both high-top and bar seating. There is plenty of fresh pub fare and seafood to accompany your beer, wine, or cocktail, and the service is fast and friendly.
Folks rave about the fried food baskets—especially that they have a gluten-free option.
Location: 39 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

Here we are again—out of space but not out of things to say…so I’ll throw you a final couple of bones.
Be sure to check out the craft cocktails at the Freeport Oyster Bar, opening in the summer of 2022—they’ve been “carefully chosen to pair well with your oysters.”
And for another local craft beer option, the tasting room at the Maine Beer Company is big, bright, and airy.
