Home to several beaches, an adorable Main Street community, a fantastic consolidated school system, and an array of consumer needs and niceties, Kennebunk is perfectly suited for both residents and vacationers.
With a vibrant and varied dining scene, “the only village in the world so named” also offers plenty of breakfast options.
Whether you’re heading out for surfing lessons with the talented folks at Aquaholics on Gooch’s Beach or spending a leisurely day strolling the Museum in the Streets, you’re going to need some serious morning sustenance.
Map of Kennebunk Breakfast Locations
This map points out all the breakfast spots in this article, so you can plan your next trip in a snap:
Squaretoes
My favorite breakfast spot in town, this chartreuse-colored house of deliciousness sits cozied up to Route One just outside Kennebunk center, and on weekends, you’d better get there early if you want a table.
Squaretoes is owned and run by the same family, and they treat customers like family, too. With a dozen or so tables as well as a handful of seats at their diminutive bar, Squaretoes is cozy and comfortable, and the menu features both breakfast and lunch; Bloody Marys and Mimosas are available as well.
I’m a big fan of their Irish Benedict; it serves as breakfast AND lunch.

The Blue
Centrally located along Main Street, The Blue is a great spot to catch up on a bit of work, reading, or people-watching. The interior is warm, bright, and features an interesting mixture of industrial, rustic, and coastal décor.
The menu is coffee-and-hot-drinks-centric, but they also have a rotating, daily offering of breakfast items; there is also beer and wine on offer.
Their Signature Sandwich is good any time of day, and I highly recommend it: 2 eggs, Cabot cheddar, choice of ham, bacon, or sausage, on rosemary focaccia with garlic aioli. The Blue also offers frequent live music.

Mike’s All Day Breakfast
This local favorite is another one of my go-to spots—and during the summer, you’ll probably be waiting for a table if you don’t get there first thing in the morning.
Mike’s is located just a minute outside of the hustle and bustle of Lower Village and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The breakfast menu is well-rounded, burgeoning with morning delights like Benedicts, crepes, omelets, and three variations of their own “Loaded Homefries.”
Me? I go for their Full Belly Breakfast every time: Choice of pancakes, French toast, or waffles with two sausages, two strips of bacon, and two eggs. Break out the stretchy pants, people.

Cherie’s Bistro
If you’re more of a home-baked-goodie-and-coffee kind of breakfast person, Cherie’s is your cup of tea…er, coffee. And while there is no indoor seating, if the weather is happy you can take your fresh scone and hot java out to one of the sweet bistro tables in front and watch the world go by.
Cherie’s also offers a delightful lunch menu, and if you’re looking for a hostess gift of the edible variety, there is also a great selection of gourmet food items, as well as a curated wine section.
Oh, and don’t forget to check out the dessert case—you won’t leave empty-handed.

Mornings in Paris
Perched in Lower Village, at the top of the hill that leads down to Dock Square, Mornings in Paris is a true slice of European charm transported to Southern Maine.
Complete with quaint bistro tables on the sidewalk (plenty of indoor seating also available—this is Maine, after all), the coffee here is expertly house-roasted from both single-origin and blended beans.
The breakfast menu includes hot sandwiches, quiche, fresh-baked pastry, bread, and cakes, and there is a lunch menu available as well.

Wishbones
Located along Route One in Kennebunk’s business district, Wishbones has several great, go-to breakfast options on their menu, perfect for grab-and-go mornings or a quick bite with a friend.
The Breakfast Burrito is a sure way to kick-start your day: Eggs, peppers, onions, salsa, cheese, and bacon, ham, or sausage on a spinach or plain wrap.
Wishbones also has plenty of lunch options, and there is indoor dining, take-out, and curbside pickup as well.

Coffee Roasters of the Kennebunks
This quaint shop makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time when you walk in the door, with the massive antique coffee roaster perched in the corner and warm smells of fresh-baked goods and hot drinks wafting through the air.
With breakfast sandwiches, muffins, scones, and coffee cake on offer, you can either grab a café table in the back or take your fresh-brewed coffee and treats to go—maybe down to a bench at Gooch’s Beach, just down the road.
Coffee Roasters of the Kennebunks is also a fantastic spot to shop for unique kitchen gifts—and you can stock up on local coffee while you’re at it.

H.B. Provisions
For mornings on the go, day trips, or just an unexpected bout of the hangries, stop into H.B. in Lower Village for a ready-to-go, house-made-daily item from their breakfast offerings.
This old-world-style general store has been providing locals and tourists alike with unique gifts, beer, an extensive wine collection, and fresh fare since 2002 (although the store itself hearkens back to 1865).
For breakfast, choose from sandwiches, wraps, bagels, bowls, pastries…and of course, coffee.

The Landing Store
Another great to-go option (although they do offer several outdoor picnic tables), The Landing Store is perfectly situated along the main route to the beach; just stop in, pick up your morning mojo, and enjoy it on your beach chair soaking up the rays, listening to the waves roll in.
The breakfast menu offers made-to-order sandwiches and burritos, muffins, pastries, and Green Mountain Coffee.

Boulangerie: A Proper Bakery
Tucked a block back from Kennebunk’s Main Street, Boulangerie is housed in a renovated barn and typically features both indoor and outdoor seating.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of trying any of their artisanal breads yet, you’re in for a treat. For breakfast, indulge in a fresh croissant, Danish, Greek yogurt muffin, coffee cake, or slice of quiche with a hot cuppa—and pick up a still-warm loaf of ciabatta or a baguette to bring home.

Christian’s Café and Eatery
Made-to-order breakfast sandwiches…muffins, bagels, pastries, huge cinnamon rolls…freshly-ground Wicked Owl coffee…Christian’s Café has it all.
Enjoy your breakfast while watching the foot traffic on Kennebunk’s Main Street—indoor and outdoor seating are available. Service is friendly, the dining area is comfortable, and the food is fresh and delicious.

Live Café
For a clean eating—well, drinking, actually—breakfast option, give Live Café a “shot.”
Fresh-squeezed juices and heart-healthy shots of vitamin-boosted blends will start your day off on the right foot.
Or, try one of the six smoothies on offer—it’s a heartier option—and if you need something to sink your teeth into, go for the Acai Bowl: Acai and other mixed berries, banana, granola, coconut, chia seeds, strawberries, and a honey drizzle.

Bennett’s
This seasonal local favorite is a sub shop, yes—so why wouldn’t they offer breakfast subs?
Bennett’s list of Signature Breakfast Subs includes my favorite, The Stegg: Shaved steak mixed with fried eggs and American cheese on a house-made roll.
Also on the menu are a handful of traditional breakfast sandwiches and a couple of out-of-this-world breakfast bowls.
Location: 200 Sea Rd, Kennebunk, ME 04043

If you are looking for brunch in Kennebunk, there are a couple of options. New in 2022, Via Sophia by the Sea will be offering an elevated Italian weekend brunch menu in Lower Village; also in Lower Village, Federal Jack’s offers an extensive Sunday brunch—including a ma
