Augusta may not offer the same level of varied culinary choices as, say, Kittery, Camden, or Portland—but this third-largest city in Maine isn’t exactly barren of restaurant options, either.
There is something to be said for not being overwhelmed with myriad dining decisions, especially when it comes to that first meal of the day. Because, let’s face it—who needs that kind of pressure?
I, for one, certainly don’t want to be straining my brain first thing in the morning before I’ve even had a cup of coffee. Augusta offers just the right number of go-to spots, depending on what kind of experience you’re looking for to break your fast (without breaking the bank).

Map of Augusta Breakfast Restaurants
The map below shows every breakfast restaurant mentioned in this post, in case an early bite is on your list of things to do on vacation in Augusta Maine:
Mulholland’s Augusta House of Pancakes
One of the most popular breakfast restaurants in town, the AHOP has been serving up huge portions of homestyle breakfast and lunch since 1977—and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back to that very decade when you take a seat in their clean, comfortable dining room.
Their menu is full of all manner of breakfast delights: Combo platters, omelets, French toast, pancakes, breakfast pizza, and a treasure trove of side orders ensure nobody leaves Mulholland’s hungry.
And because I’m a sweet-and-savory breakfast person, I recommend the AHOP Platter (two pancakes or French toast slices, two eggs any style, and your choice of meat).

Downtown Diner
This is another well-loved local breakfast haunt—and there’s no wondering why. Downtown Diner knows how to breakfast (although they do a dang good job at lunch, too).
The fact that they have several of what I call lumberjack breakfast options (all-in-one breakfast platters, with sweet and savory elements all alongside one another) tells me these folks mean business. In addition to those, they also do omelets, egg plates, a breakfast burrito, a breakfast bowl, and Eggs Benedict.

Wrapped Up
This company has two locations—Wrapped Up is on Hichborn Street, and has both lunch and breakfast wrap options (if you’re really hungry, get The Works—3 eggs, sausage, bacon, cheddar, and caramelized onions).
The Wrapped Up Coffee House is more of a, well, coffee house, although they also have a couple of breakfast sandwiches and a selection of fresh baked goods—if you choose this Water Street location, you definitely have to indulge in a slice of their homemade chocolate babka.

Lisa’s Restaurant & Lounge
Lisa’s is one of the few establishments on this list that is open for breakfast (until 11 am), lunch, and dinner—365 days a year—and features a full bar, to boot.
Items of note on their impressively comprehensive menu: Their Egg-in-a-Hole Quesadilla is a culinary work of art and taste sensation all in one (sunny side egg nestled in a tomato, onion, jalapeño, chive, and cheddar-jack quesadilla); the Strawberry and Cream Cheese-Stuffed French Toast is morning dessert magic.
The pièce de résistance: you can get an 8-ounce ribeye steak as a side order (just when I thought I’d seen it all…)!

Bagel Mainea
If all you need is a carb and a coffee in the morning, then roll out of bed and into this cute little shop full of delicious aromas and friendly smiles. I don’t know about you, but I love me a fresh, hot bagel slathered with gobs of cream cheese alongside a steaming hot mug of strong java.
At Bagel Mainea, they have all that and more—including an expansive lunch menu. With nearly 20 different flavors of sweet or savory house-made bagels and 15 spread/topping options, you can craft your own masterpiece.
Might I recommend a toasted Black Olive and Rosemary bagel shmeared with either sun-dried tomato cream cheese or fresh hummus?

Britt’s Café
Fresh, made-to-order breakfast and lunch, super-smiley staff, and homemade pastries. Sounds like a recipe for success, to me! Britt’s is a popular spot for good reason, clearly.
Much of their menu is of the handheld variety (burritos and sandwiches), but there are plenty of fork-and-knife options, as well, like their egg scramble bowls (give the Greek Bowl one little taste—eggs, spinach, onion, feta, and Kalamata olives—and I swear you’ll be obsessed).
And of course, because I can’t just do savory, I have to push their Cinnamon Coffee Cake on you, as well.

Breakfast Pizza in Augusta
I recently did a write-up on the Best Pizza in Augusta; upon completion, I realized that more than a few of those restaurants also offered made-to-order breakfast pizzas on their menus.
So, in the spirit of culinary inclusiveness, I’ve assembled a list of those fine establishments and included it here—because if ever two words were a match made in heaven, breakfast + pizza takes the coffee cake.
I mentioned the breakfast pie at Mulholland’s Augusta House of Pancakes earlier; Cushnoc Brewing Company doesn’t open until 11, but that still leaves time to call their “The Diner Closes at 2 pm” pizza a breakfast option.
The Egg, Bacon, Ham, and Cheese breakfast pizza at College Carry-Out is served all day, and the same goes for the Whipper’s Pizza option (although you can get any toppings they have on their menu with along with your eggs).
The breakfast pizzas at Sam’s Italian Foods come in 7”, 10”, and 14” sizes; and at Twin’s Country Store, it’s a free-for-all—you can choose whatever you want to go on top of your egg-laden crust.
As always, there are a slew of popular chain restaurants ready and waiting to fill the bellies of those of you that don’t stray from the familiar, no matter where you are in Augusta.
So, if it’s three o’clock in the morning and you’ve just got to have a Super Slam breakfast, then clearly, you’re heading to “America’s Diner,” otherwise known as Denny’s.
For a towering stack of colorful Cupcake Pancakes or a Chicken Fajita Omelet, head to IHOP (International House of Pancakes, for those of you living under a rock).
Panera Bread’s breakfast sandwiches, wraps, and soufflés are available until 10:30 daily.
Of course, you can always get something breakfast-y and delicious in the blink of an eye at any of the McDonald’s, Subway, Dunkin’, or Aroma Joe’s locations.
