The town of Lincoln is a great place to visit in any season. Whether you are hitting one of the local lakes in the summer, viewing the brilliant fall foliage, stopping by on your snowmobile in winter, or doing some spring shopping, there are many activities to keep you occupied.
Whatever the season, you are more than likely to work up an appetite. The good news is that Lincoln has a number of great dining establishments to help you tackle your hunger. Here are our top 7 restaurant choices for your next visit:
Our first choice is one of the newer restaurants in town – the Forester Pub on West Broadway. Forester’s name pays tribute to Lincoln’s reputation as a mill town, and also to the many area residents that earn their living from Maine’s working forests. The food at Forester’s Pub is excellent, and so is the atmosphere. They feature both indoor and outside dining, and also a large bar offering beer, wine, and spirits of all kinds. If you are stopping by Lincoln for dinner, do your self a favor and stop in.
Pizza is a staple of the American diet, and that holds true in Lincoln. There are a handful of pizza joints in and around town, but in our opinion the best is Lincoln House of Pizza on Main Street. The Osmani’s offer a variety of homemade pizzas – give the Big Mac pizza a try – along with an assortment of other dishes from the grill. Their Greek salad is excellent, and we’ve yet to try a menu item we don’t like. They do have a small dining area if you want to eat in, or call ahead and grab a pie to go.
Another excellent option for sit-down dining in Lincoln is Gillmor’s Beef ‘N’ Ale. Located on West Broadway next to the Walmart, Gillmor’s has been serving up excellent food in town for years. As the name implies they offer a fine assortment of ale and beer, and their beef dishes (like the prime rib) are fantastic. Their wings are a local favorite, and as an added bonus they have a separate dining room that can cater larger events. If you are stopping by Lincoln on your ATV or snowmobile you can drive right to the restaurant for a meal.
Another pizza place made the cut for our roundup of top eateries in Lincoln – one with a long history in Maine. Pat’s Pizza was famously started near the University of Maine in Orono, and then later branched out to several locations, including here in Lincoln. They offer both thin and thick crust pizzas (our favorite is the mac ‘n cheese pizza on a thick crust), along with a variety of other dishes. Their dining area is larger than any other pizza joints in town, so bring the family and enjoy some great food in a nice environment.
The Timberhouse Restaurant is the next stop on our list of great places to eat in Lincoln. Located on Flemming Street, the Timberhouse has long been a breakfast favorite for locals. But mornings are not the only time to enjoy this family friendly establishment – they also serve great food at reasonable prices to the lunch crowd as well. If you have a hankering for homemade breads and deserts then the Timberhouse is worth a stop.
Maine is known for its seafood, and even though Lincoln is a couple hours away from the coast doesn’t mean you can’t get a good fish dinner in town. In fact, Charlie’s Seafood offers one of the best lobster rolls you will find in the state, no matter how close to the ocean you get. Located on School Street, Charlie’s is both a restaurant and market, meaning you can also get live lobster to cook later at home or camp. And since it is right next to Steaks ‘N Stuff, you can grab some great steaks to go with them, and serve up your own surf ‘n turf at home. Charlie’s offers onion rings, fries, and some terrific haddock burgers. If you’re ready for a seafood feed, put Charlie’s on your itinerary.
If Asian cuisine is more your thing, then our next pick will definitely be your cup of tea. Wing Wah on Main Street in Lincoln has been serving Chinese food in town for decades, offering a full complement of dishes for eating in or take-out. They have a large selection of combination platters that are lunch favorites, and also serve a number of cocktails if you want something to take the edge off with your meal. If egg rolls, fried rice and teriyaki beef are your comfort foods, then look no further than Wing Wah.
